09-11-2009 (SHS e-News 44 / November 2009) - The international celebration of World Philosophy Day 2009 took place in Moscow and Saint Petersburg from 16 to 19 November 2009. A country with a long tradition in philosophy and a true passion for thought and word, this year the Russian Federation took the place of honour, as organizer and host of this international event.

14-05-2009 (UNESCO) - On 13 May 2009, the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, and the Rector of Maltepe University, Istanbul, Turkey, Professor Kemal Köymen, signed an agreement establishing a UNESCO Chair in Philosophy and Human Rights at Maltepe University.

14-11-2008 (UNESCO) - World Philosophy Day, an annual celebration of philosophy initiated by UNESCO in 2005, continues to extend its scope. In 2008, the event was held in Palermo (Italy) on November 20 and 21, while numerous other initiatives took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and in over 80 countries around the world. The 2008 celebration was held in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration for Human Rights.
