Advancement of Human Rights
UNESCO, by actions in all its fields of competence, seeks to contribute to the creation of a universal culture of human rights. However, the focus is put on those areas where the Organization has a clear comparative advantage, experience and expertise, drawing upon its functions as a laboratory of ideas, a standard-setter and a clearing house.
UNESCO’s past and present work in human rights represents a valuable contribution to the efforts of the international community to promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all. Since 2003, in order to implement its Strategy on Human Rights, UNESCO is strengthening the Organization's activities in the following areas:
The first World Human Rights Moot Court Competition organized in South Africa 17-09-2009 (University of Pretoria / UNESCO) - The first World Human Rights Moot Court Competition is organized by the University of Pretoria in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, from October until December 2009.
