An Intergovernmental Council (IGC), together with its IGC Bureau (made up of representatives from each region) and an independent Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) govern the Programme with co-ordination provided by a small Secretariat at UNESCO Headquarters and MOST National Liaison Committees (NLC's) - presently established in 68 countries. These NLC’s provide the link between the Programme and national social science and policy communities.
This structure enables Member States, United Nations Agencies, and Funding Agencies (UNDP, UNFPA, UNODCCP), as well as bilateral funding sources, to draw on the Programme for increased technical assistance in social policy planning.
