Dissemination of Knowledge on Human Rights UNESCO has a longstanding experience in the field of the promotion of knowledge on human rights through education, training, dissemination of information and awareness-raising. For UNESCO, human rights education is a powerful tool for building inclusive societies respectful of human dignity. A real knowledge of human rights by the largest possible number of women and men is essential to make human rights a reality in every community and in the society at large. Dissemination of knowledge on human rights is carried out through a series of concrete activities, in particular: Encouragement of the promotion of human rights through education, training, research and information by awarding the UNESCO/Bilbao Prize for the Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights Promotion of education for human rights, peace, democracy, tolerance and international understanding through UNESCO Chairs Dissemination of knowledge on major international human rights instruments Publication and dissemination of books, manuals and other information materials on challenges, threats and obstacles to the full enjoyment of human rights Preparation of human rights training materials Implementation of the UNESCO Strategy on Human Rights in the field of the promotion of human rights education Awareness-raising on human rights issues (Human Rights Day)     News     Advanced Course on the International Protection of Human Rights (17-28 August 2009, Turku/Abö, Finland) 26-01-2009 (Institute for Human Rights at Abö Akademi University) - organized by the Institute for Human Rights at Abö Akademi University.  More...     Email this page     Printable version
