  UNESCO celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March)

At this occasion young people will discuss the issue of racism and discrimination at a youth gathering on 19 March 2010, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (France). UNESCO and the Spanish soccer team F.C. Barcelona will also announce the start of a joint anti-racism campaign.

17-03-2010 (UNESCO) - The fifth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) will be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from 22 to 26 March under the theme “The Right to the City - Bridging the Urban Divide.” The world’s leading conference on cities, which is organized by the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT) every two years, examines the most pressing problems related to the urban context.

17-03-2010 (UNESCO) - The First Assembly of the International Network of Women Philosophers sponsored by UNESCO took place at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris (France) on 14 and 15 December 2009. The Assembly brought together more than 80 women philosophers from Africa, the Arab region, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America and Latin America and the Caribbean. Pierre Sané, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, officially opened the Assembly. The conclusions of the meeting are now available.

03-03-2010 (UNESCO) - The second phase of the Campaign “My Life is a Story” has been recently launched by Lauren Child. The Campaign has been initiated by the British children’s author and illustrator in 2008 in the framework of her partnership with UNESCO’s Programme for the Education of Children in Need and her publisher Hachette Children’s Books. Its purpose is to give children all over the world the opportunity to tell the story of their life through writing, drawing and photography.
