| Draft Report on Ethical Implications of Global Climate Change - Call for Comments |

| This draft report has been authored by the working group on environmental ethics of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST). Its aim is to serve as a point of departure for discussion among members of the scientific community of UNESCO, the NGOs working with UNESCO and Member States of UNESCO on the ethical challenges posed by global climate change. |

The focus of this document falls on a clarification of:- The central ethical issues that are brought about by global climate change.
- The general and specific principles that could be adopted to form a basis of responding to these issues.
- Possible recommendations on different levels, contexts, and scales of intervention that follows from a sound ethics of climate change.
This document is still in the process of construction.
Any comments that can improve this document are welcome, and should be sent by 15 May 2009 to the Working Group on Environmental Ethics, Johan Hattingh (jph2@sun.ac.za), with a copy to John Crowley at the Secretariat of COMEST (J.Crowley@unesco.org).
All commentators are invited to propose policy recommendations, in addition to the examples that are included in Addendum A of the report.
This document will be finalized towards the end of May 2009, and will then be submitted for adoption to COMEST at its Ordinary Session in June 2009.
