Mr. Anatolii Komaritzin, former full Admiral and Head of the Russian Hydrographic Service of the Navy, contributed greatly to the IOC Ocean Mapping Programme by leading production of bottom relief chart of the Arctic Sea which won the award at the International Exhibition in Ottawa, and contributed to the development of bathymetric charts of Pacific and Indian Oceans. He helped to facilitate exchange of historical oceanographic data collected by naval vessela and contributed to the use of naval vessels for peaceful purposes. In 1998 with his assistance a big group of European children from almost 20 countries took part in a research/training expedition on board a Russian hydrographic vessel. Closely associated with the work of International Hydrographic Organization and of the International Organization of Lighthouse Authority he contributed to facilitating co-operation between these organizations and the IOC.
