Modialogo Engineering Award_Winners on Stage.gif The 2005 Mondialogo Engineering Award Symposium and Award Ceremony very successfully completed the first round of this innovative international initiative launched by Mondialogo partners DaimlerChrysler and UNESCO in 2003

Twenty-one finalist teams were invited to Berlin to take part in the symposium and award ceremony, with each team represented by three team members. On 30 May the symposium featured workshops where the award-winning project proposals were presented, a panel discussion on engineering and the future and the award ceremony. This followed visits to the DaimlerChrysler plant and Berlin.

The Mondialogo Engineering Award invited young engineers from developed and developing countries to work together to prepare project proposals addressing the UN Millennium Development Goals, particularly the eradication of poverty and the promotion of environmentally sustainable development. The Mondialogo Engineering Award was the first worldwide competition focusing on addressing the UNMDGs, at the same time creating and fostering intercultural dialogue, understanding, tolerance and friendship between young people from different backgrounds.

The 21 Mondialogo Engineering Award winning teams, from 25 countries, were selected by five MEA Jury members from a shortlist of forty project proposals, from a total of 111 proposals submitted by 412 teams of 1,700 young engineers and students from 79 countries. The winners each received an award of 14,000€ from a total of 300,000€ in prize money - which was intended to help facilitate the realisation of the proposed projects.
