The bilingual text was engraved by Jordanian authorities to commemorate the SESAME launching The ground-breaking ceremony of the building to host the SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) Centre was held in Alan, Jordan on the morning of 6 January 2003.
During the ceremony, H.M King Abdullah II Ben Al-Hussein and the UNESCO Director-General unveiled a commemorative plaque. The text of the plaque is in both English and Arabic; the English text on the left and the Arabic on the right. The texts face each other. In English text reads as follows:
"Under the patronage of H.M. King Abdullah II Ben Al-Hussein, and in the presence of H. E. Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, with God's Blessing the Ground-Breaking Ceremony and the Establishment of the Synchrotron Laboratory Complex (SESAME) were inaugurated on Monday dated 2/11/1423H., 6/1/2003."
