Through international cooperation and partnerships, UNESCO organizes activities, especially in developing countries, to promote capacity-building for research and advanced training in mathematics and mathematics education, and in general, to enhance public understanding and appreciation of the importance of mathematics in society and daily life.

The International Centre for Pure and Applied Mathematics (ICPAM), based in Nice, France, has been the consistent partner of UNESCO in capacity-building initiatives to promote research and advanced training in Mathematics. Moreover, UNESCO supports initiatives that address the lack of interest by students in mathematics, and those that upgrade teachers on their knowledge of new developments in Mathematics and their significance to society and daily life. Within this context, partnerships are being developed with the International Commission for Mathematical Instruction (ICMI-IMU), regional mathematical societies, universities, and research institutes. For more information please contact: m.alarcon@unesco.org
