Dr. James Baker has been involved with the IOC for almost 30 years. He chaired the Committee on Ocean Processes and Climate from 1989 to 1992 and the Committee for the Global Ocean Observing System both before and after he served as Administrator of US/NOAA., a position in which he continued to guide US policy toward IOC. He then served as a consultant to both IOC on global observations and to IOC and WMO on the Joint Technical Commission for Oceanography and marine meteorology from 2006 to 2008. Most recently, he chaired the governing board of the Ocean Biogeographic Information System. In 1989 he gave the Anton Bruun lecture to the IOC Assembly on “Observing Change in the Global Ocean” the View from Space”.
