For the fourth consecutive year, the Conference of Deans of science faculties brings together second-level students from all over France for the French national forum ‘Let’s do Science’.
To “do” science, to give young people a taste for the discovery of new phenomena, to elaborate and to successfully execute original projects - such is the ambition of the competition ‘Let’s do Science’ organized by the faculties of science of twenty eight French universities under the auspices of the CDUS (Conference of Deans and Directors of the science faculties of French universities).
During the first term of the school year, university juries selected the best projects put forward by the secondary school teachers and a grant of € 300 euros was given to carry out the project. Topics include sustainable development, renewable energy, mathematical problems, etc.
Since the middle of May, regional fora have taken place in the science faculties of the organizing universities. The winners of these regional fora – almost 200 students aged from 11 to 18 attending classes from the first to the last year of secondary school, will meet in UNESCO in Paris on Wednesday 24 June to compete in a studious but nevertheless festive atmosphere. A jury, presided by General Jean-Pierre Haigneré, will examine the projects of the budding scientists and will establish a list of winners.
The competition is placed under the patronage of Madame Valérie Pécresse, the French Minister of Higher Education and Research, of Mr Xavier Darcos, the French Minister of Education, of UNESCO, and of the French Academy of Science.
The competition has benefited from the support of the following organizations: CEA, INRIA, CNES ; a number of learned societies and associations: la Société Chimique de France, la Société Mathématique de France, la Société Française de Physique, la Société Française de Génétique, l’Union des professeurs de Physique et Chimie, Femmes et Sciences, Femmes et mathématiques, Femmes Ingénieurs, MAIF, IBM, and the publishers Larousse and EDP Sciences.
