UNESCO has developed the "UNESCO Guidelines on Language and Content in HIV- and AIDS-Related Materials" for a harmonised use of language and content that reflect an approach to the epidemic which is comprehensive and inclusive, sensitive to the needs and issues of the whole population, but with focused attention on especially vulnerable populations.

As one of the founding members of UNAIDS and one of the ten Cosponsor organizations, UNESCO is committed to reducing the impact of the HIV epidemic.
