    The Laureates, one from each continent, work on Material Sciences and were chosen for their groundbreaking achievements and potential contributions to scientific progress. They received their recompense in Paris, 3 March 2005

    The Laureates of this 7th edition of the L'OREAL-UNESCO awards and who each L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards.gifreceived  prizes of $100 000 are:
    Pr. Zohra Ben Lakhdar, Africa (Tunisia)
    Pr. Fumiko Yonezawa, Asia/Pacific (Japan)
    Pr. Dominique Langevin, Europe (France)
    Pr. Belita Koiller, Latin America (Brazil)
    Pr. Myriam P. Sarachik, North America (USA)

    In a natural extension of the L’Oréal–UNESCO Awards, the L’Oréal–UNESCO Fellowship programme encourages young women researchers in the life sciences to pursue their work by awarding them $20,000 each. The 2005 list of 15 Fellows includes a strong showing from developing and emerging countries such as Burkina Faso, the DPR of Korea and Jordan.
