    Genetic Message by Nicole Lemaire D'Agaggio.gif Founded in 1979, the European Academy of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EAASH) celebrated its 25th anniversary on 21st October 2004 at UNESCO HQ, Paris.

     

    The EAASH, a non-governmental organization, chooses its members among the national or international academies and winners of important international prizes and has thus become a high-level committee of experts. Currently members include 72 Nobel Prize winners as well as presidents, vice-presidents and permanent secretaries of national academies. EAASH also maintains official relations with 53 national academies.

    Through its collaboration with UNESCO, EAASH encourages cooperation among nations within the fields of its competence as a complement to the Organization’s activities. An honorary Committee of Heads of State and Ambassadors to UNESCO oversees EEASH’s activities. 21 October celebrations included:  

    • Resumé of EEASH’s activities during the last 25 years – Dr. Nicole Lemaire, EEASH General Secretary and founding member.
    • Interventions on missions carried out by EEASH for UNESCO
    • Presentation of a network of international laboratories to fight AIDS – Prof. Luc Montagnier.
    • Presentation of a network of institutes specialized in oligo-elements in the Mediterranean region - Prof. Chazot
    • Presentation of network activities “Basic sciences and emerging pathogen factors” - Dr. Rosenfeld

    Milestones in EAASH cooperation with UNESCO include the organization various international meetings:
