MCBN is a not-for-profit association and a non-governmental organization (NGO). It is supported by UNESCO, with which, as part of the Basic Science programs, has been working during 12 years.Most of the non-political problems that afflict the present-day world, such as malnutrition, injurious environmental factors -chemical or physical in nature-, uncontrolled population growth, degenerative diseases such as cancer immuno-deficiencies and ageing, the spreading of viral, bacterial and protozoan infectious diseases are associated with areas investigated by molecular and cell biology. While major advances have been made toward solving these problems in countries with highly developed technology, the rest of the world has not felt an appreciable impact of these solutions.
