The Regional Education Innovations Network of the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) has launched the first issue of its quarterly bulletin, presenting a thematic perspective on content for analysis and reflection, and on innovative education initiatives in the region.
First edition of the Temas de Innovemos bulletin
The keynote article, “Educating anyone and everyone. On being together in education”, by FLACSO’s Argentina Education Coordinator Carlos Skliar, gives a perspective on the significance of education today. To educate is to reflect on and to think of other possible ways of living and coexisting; seeing education as “being together”, as a space and time set aside for conversation and coming together in all our diversity; that is the central idea in Skliar’s article.
In terms of experiences of innovative education initiatives, the bulletin presents a description of the project “Schools that build contexts for democratic coexistence and learning”, which falls within the framework of the Latin American Network for Coexistence in the School (Red Latinoamericana de Convivencia Escolar; RLCE). The study adopts an exploratory approach to school management processes, thus configuring a collective subject with a commitment to improving learning and coexistence in the school. A number of activities analysed in this project are summarised, by way of examples.
This issue also presents the experience of the Langford Method, a working proposal developed in Chile with the aim of improving the school environment and thus contributing to the cognitive and emotional development of the students, helping them to strengthen their can-do attitude and willpower.
