Evaluation mission of community radios (Bamenda and Oku)

Communication and Information sector undertook an evaluation mission of community radios in Oku and Bamenda with the objective of assessing the technical state of equipment, quality of programmes and the status of personnel. The first lap was at Oku Rural Community Radio. Like in previous evaluation missions, it was observed that the technical state of the equipment was deplorable and need some replacements. Regarding the personnel, there was need for some refresher courses to be organised for the animators and technicians. An audience survey was carried out in Balichem and Mbam villages were the populations expressed satisfaction with the quality of programmes but deplored the quality broadcasts which is due to persistent cuts in electricity supply. To abate this problem, the Lord Mayor of the Elak-Oku Rural Council has engaged in repairing the solar power system which has not been functioning for a long while.
In Bamenda, the evaluation could not be carried out because the Radio Hot Coffee installed by UNESCO no longer exists as it has been replaced by Radio Hot Cocoa with a complete change in the broadcast frequencies and legal framework.
