UNESCO, the Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Easter Island have developed a Master Plan for the Rapa Nui Educational Village, which gathers together this people’s traditions, thoughts and actions by linking the vision of their ancestors with their hopes for the future, which give reason and meaning to their life.
The aim of this project is to continue to foster the universal vision of the love of life that has characterised the Rapa Nui culture and has been passed on to other peoples, taking into account the value of the Rapa Nui National Park that was solemnly declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.
The Educational Village is part of the Joint MINEDUC/UNESCO Project: “Chilean education reform: optimisation of investments in education infrastructure”. One of the relevant aspects of the joint project is for the community to participate in setting priorities for their educational and cultural needs and to translate these into educational opportunities.
This document reflects proposals for the future that the current inhabitants of Rapa Nui have expressed, and their hopes for building a shared modern vision to be developed together, based on a will to achieve individual and collective transformation and contribute to the general happiness of the people of the island.
