Education cannot be limited to providing answers to external demands, but it must also exert a proactive influence on social, economic and cultural change. In order to meet this challenge, educational innovations play a key role in anticipating responses to emerging problems and offering new solutions to unresolved issues.
Moving towards quality education for all, can only be accomplished through concrete innovations targeted at institutions and educational programmes. With this objective in mind, OREALC/UNESCO Santiago, through the Regional Education Innovations Network (INNOVEMOS), a permanent forum of reflection and debate on innovation and educational change, is disseminating and exchanging valuable experiences among the countries of the region.
The purpose of the Network is to instil among teachers and schools the concept of “innovative culture”. This will be accomplished through the identification, systematisation and dissemination of innovating experiences; conducting research and evaluation of innovations; generating knowledge derived from and applicable to teacher practices; sharing experiences, and engaging in critical reflection. The Network seeks to build the countries’ capacity for promoting and maintaining educational change. INNOVEMOS, through articulating the education and knowledge-generating processes, and related activities, becomes a valuable reference in decision-making, as it can inform educational policies and practices with the potential to improve the quality of education – without exclusions – at every level and in every modality.
