    Programme Assistant

    The UNESCO New Delhi Office requires a Programme Assistant for its Ecological and Earth Sciences (EES) Programme. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, EEES under the Sciences Sector and the authority of the Director of the UNESCO New Delhi Office, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks:

    1. Assist in organizing workshops, seminars and capacity building activities with partners and stakeholders including preparation of related working papers/documents, notes and reports.
    2. Prepare and follow up contracts, with close attention to contract details, verifying their conformity with UNESCO’s rules and regulations including maintaining and updating files related to projects and programs with updated information on implemented activities, as needed.
    3. Administrative and secretarial preparation of missions, including travel arrangements, claims, and mission file containing agenda, substantive background papers, travel itinerary, hotel booking, etc.
    4. Organize filing system of all activities (hard copy and soft copy) and ensure the files are updated on a daily basis
    5. Keep an orderly agenda updated on a daily base and arrange for appointments, meetings, and other events, as needed; prepare the relevant file prior to all appointment, meetings and events.
    6. Maintain and update mailing lists of partner organizations and institutes and. arrange distribution of information on activities and publications, as needed.

    Qualifications:

    - A bachelors degree preferably in science with strong organizational skills and excellent knowledge of basic software programs (PC, Internet, Excel and Word). Preparation on computer of charts, forms, address labels, short notes, mailing lists, data base, letters, memos and faxes are a necessary skill;
    - Experience in working with United Nations Agencies would be an asset;

    The incumbent will be based at the UNESCO New Delhi Office. This is short term appointment till December 2009.

    Internship 2009 - 2010
    Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO New Delhi


    The UNESCO New Delhi Office offers an internship position in support of the activities of the Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS) for a minimum duration of 3 months starting from 1 July 2009. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist of the Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS) and the authority of the Director of the UNESCO New Delhi office, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

    Assist the Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences (SHS), from administrative tasks to research activities, in the implementation of SHS activities related to urban governance, namely:

  • Publication of UNESCO – UN-HABITAT Historic Districts for All: A Social and Human Approach for Sustainable Revitalization (Guide for Urban Actors in India) and related activities;

  • Organization of training sessions and workshops for city professionals in India based on the Guide for Urban Actors in India;


  • Minimum qualification – Master’s degree with a focus in urban studies.

    INTERNSHIP 2009 - SOCIAL AND HUMAN SCIENCES

    The UNESCO New Delhi Office offers an internship position in support of the activities of the Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS) for a minimum duration of 3 months starting from 1 July 2009. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist of the Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS) and the authority of the Director of the UNESCO New Delhi office, the interns will undertake the following tasks:

    Assist the Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences, from administrative tasks to research activities, in the implementation of SHS activities related to social policy dialogue, namely:

  • Organization of the Third Forum of Ministers of Social Development from South Asia. The main objective of UNESCO Forum is the creation of a South Asian space for policy dialogue on social issues of common concern, open to social science researchers, policy makers and social activists;


  • Minimum qualification – Master’s Degree in relevant field
