NEW DELHI

Strategy

The mission of UNESCO New Delhi Office is to contribute to sustainable human development and create the conditions for dialogue, based upon respect for commonly shared values and the dignity of each civilization and culture, through programmes and projects in UNESCO's fields of competence - education, the natural and social sciences, culture and communication and information.

In carrying out this mission the Office places great emphasis on development of a range of partnerships, alliances and other cooperative mechanisms in the region, so as to foster impact for its programme activities at both regional and national levels.

Together with the other agencies in the United Nations system, UNESCO is committed to consolidating the dynamism and long-term economic growth the region has experienced and to carrying out its ethical mission to complement this growth by addressing threats to the peace, security, and equitable development of the region.

UNESCO New Delhi Office seeks to give coherence and synergy to its overall programme by specifying a set of challenges around which its projects and activities are organized. Six broad areas, as the Organization's contribution towards the six Millennium Development Goals, each having both global and regional dimensions, have been identified:

    1. Universal Primary Education
    2. Promoting gender equity and equality
    3. Implementation of the new commitment to science
    4. Protecting world’s cultural diversity
    5. Equitable access to information and knowledge to all
    6. Sustainable Development
