ICCROM COURSE: FIRST AID TO CULTURAL HERITAGE IN TIMES OF CONFLICT

ICCROM COURSE: FIRST AID TO CULTURAL HERITAGE IN TIMES OF CONFLICT

Rome, Italy
24 September- 26 October, 2012 (5 weeks)

UNESCO’s partner agency ICCROM has opened 22 places for a five-week training course, entitled ‘First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict’. The course – organised in cooperation with UNESCO, Blue Shield Network and other specialised international and national agencies – will be held in Rome and will include in situ training at sites throughout Italy.

The focus of this training will be on the protection and recovery of cultural heritage post armed conflict. Conflicts can often cause deliberate and accidental damage to sites of cultural significance and the recovery of such assets can play a crucial role in rebuilding societies and overcoming the sense of loss and displacement. Therefore the training aims to refine concerned professionals’ expertise in these matters and build the participants’ understanding of how and when to intervene to secure or recover cultural heritage while humanitarian efforts are under way.

The course, which is supported by The Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC) and The Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC), will comprise of group activities, interactive lectures, practical sessions, simulations, site visits and case studies. Participants will be asked to develop case studies drawing from their own experience and work context.

If you are interested in joining the course and are working in the cultural or humanitarian sector, you can find more information and the course application form at the below link. Information about fees, travel costs and funding possibilities can also be found at the below link.
