The focus of this training will be on the protection and recovery of cultural heritage post armed conflict. Conflicts can often cause deliberate and accidental damage to sites of cultural significance and the recovery of such assets can play a crucial role in rebuilding societies and overcoming the sense of loss and displacement. Therefore the training aims to refine concerned professionals’ expertise in these matters and build the participants’ understanding of how and when to intervene to secure or recover cultural heritage while humanitarian efforts are under way.
The course, which is supported by The Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC) and The Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC), will comprise of group activities, interactive lectures, practical sessions, simulations, site visits and case studies. Participants will be asked to develop case studies drawing from their own experience and work context.
