Meeting the Challenges of Global Change: the 22nd Pacific Science Congress

UNESCO Office, Jakarta is supporting the upcoming Pacific Science Congress, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur 14-17 June.

The Congress is jointly organized by the Pacific Science Association, Malaysian Academy of Sciences, the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the Auspices of UNESCO, and the International Council for Science. The Congress provides an interdisciplinary platform for scientists from the Asia and the Pacific region to assess and prioritize issues requiring scientific research; brings together scientists from more remote states; and catalyzes international and cross-disciplinary collaboration and to announce and establish new research initiatives.

The Congress is divided into eight different sub-themes: (1) A Changing Climate (2) Global Change & Ecosystem (3) Oceans (4) Earth System & Risk Management (5) Globalization (6) Resources Constraints & Sustainability (7) Health Challenges (8) Science for Policy and the Future. Keynote speakers from all over the region including Australia, the United States, Canada, and Malaysia will be speaking on each of the sub-themes. Mr Hubert J. Gijzen, Director of UNESCO Office in Jakarta, will be chairing the session on subtheme Biodiversity and Ecosystems Keynote.
