United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural OrganizationThe meeting, named “Transparency as modernization of the State; experiences, stakeholders, and results”, was organized by the national Council for Transparency with the support of numerous organizations, including the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago).
The panels and workshops held over the two days were centred on the analysis of the wide ranging transformations that have occurred since April 2009. Particularly, they focused on the procedures done by groups responsible for complying with the requirements set forth by Law 20285, and the necessary changes in the practices of other society stakeholders.
Other issues considered included: how to measure and assess the impacts of transparency on society; technology platforms that allow a better access to information; challenges in the protection of personal data as the flipside to transparency, and file management as a tool for the enforceability of the right to information access. The meeting also included workshop sessions, such as “Journalism and the Right Public Information Access”.
The Seminar took place at the extension centre of the Universidad Católica (Alameda 390, Santiago).
