Young people from 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) recently gathered in Suva, Fiji for the second Pacific Youth Festival. The festival was held from July 11th to 18th and was attended by almost 300 young people.

The theme of the week long Pacific Youth Festival was “Actioning the Youth Agenda”. The discussions focused on four thematic areas; Promoting Healthy Living, Pacific Identity, Climate Change and Adaptation, and Governance, Peace and Security.

A wide range of issues affecting the lives of young people were discussed through plenary discussions, workshops and seminars.

UNESCO Apia facilitated a number of life skills workshops to develop young Pacific Islanders skills in the areas of Project Management, ICT and social networking. In addition a session was also held on culture and identity, and a consultation on vulnerable youth within the region.

The Festival facilitated inter-regional communication and network building amongst all participating partners. A key outcome of the festival was a draft youth declaration which is currently open for comment by festival participants.
