Background:
Ayako ITO joined UNESCO Jakarta in May 2011. She is responsible for the coordination of the planning, development and implementation of projects in line with the programme objectives and strategy of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for “Scientific Programmes on Global Challenges in Asia and the Pacific Region.”
Ayako earned her Master of Arts degree in International Development in Education, from the Graduate School of International Cooperation, Hiroshima University. She began her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), then served as a Project Formulation Advisor for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) field office in Senegal for three years, where she designed, monitored, and managed the regional education programme. Prior to joining UNESCO Jakarta, Ayako interned at UNESCO-IBE, Geneva, and performed analytical research works on curriculum development, student assessment and inclusive education.
Her professional interests include improvement of classroom practices in Science and Technology Education and its curriculum development.
