This publication, based on a comprehensive, gender-sensitive approach to peace education, has been written during the first year of the United Nations International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010).

cultre of peace100.gif A resource for teacher education, especially relevant to teaching in secondary schools, but which can also be used at other levels of the formal school system and in non-formal education, this book reflects the core of UNESCO's actions towards fostering a culture of peace, preventing violence, promoting conflict-resolution and peace-building. It is also a response to the growing demands of educators who want to provide their students with gender-sensitive human rights and peace education as well as skills and capacities they need to build, maintain and belong to a global movement towards a culture of peace.

Ms Reardon has written a number of other publications for UNESCO and received an Honorable Mention for the UNESCO Peace Education Prize this year.
