On 29 May 2007, the Director-General, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, sent a congratulatory message to UNESCO Artist for Peace Mr Davaajargal Munkhb, the Mongolian sumo wrestler, known professionally as Hakuho.

Hakuho has just been awarded the prodigious title of Yokozuna, which is reserved for sumo wrestlers of exception. In his letter congratulating Hakuho on this prestigious promotion, Mr Matsuura recalled his nomination as UNESCO Artist for Peace in Ulaanbaatar in July 2006, on the occasion of the fifth Children’s Performing Arts Festival in East Asia, and expressed his wish that Hakuho continue to support UNESCO’s activities for young people in East Asia and to promote the Organization’s ideals and objectives.
