Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'éducation, la science et la cultureIOC’s work on marine living resources includes collaborative studies on coral reefs, harmful marine algae and coastal biota. Also the promotion of broader approaches to fisheries management.
An overview of recent, ongoing and proposed work within IOC related to sustainable development is given in a report generated by an international conference held at UNESCO House in December 2001, which assessed progress on oceans and coasts in the implementation of Chapter 17 of Agenda 21 and related instruments, as part of IOC’s contribution to the Johannesburg summit. Aspects of marine biodiversity are also addressed in the recently released Atlas of the Oceans, accessible through the IOC web site.
