Some general information
1979 - Education of Physicists in Montenegro begins at Department of Physics at Institute for Mathematics and Physics;
1988 - Department of Physics at Faculty of Science;
Since 1979 – 15 assistants from the Department of Physics got PhD;
7 of those 15 PhDs were done in HEP HEP attractive and very popular among young physicists from the Department of Physics;
BUT, Physicists at the Department of Physics are teaching stuff Department needs various profiles of Physics education young people who want to do PhD in HEP can hardly expect employment at the Department young people are going abroad for PhD study;

more and more do PhD abroad!
HEP Physicists who left University
Dr A. Bokan - left University research in US;
Dr D. Salihagić - 5 years of post-doc at MPI Munich permanent post at MPI in Munich starting in few months;
HEP Physicists who are abroad for the year 2004/2005
Dr S. Damjanović - post-doc at Physics Institute in Heidelberg;

The most intensive collaboration of University of Montenegro in HEP with:
JINR – Dubna – the only gate abroad for our physicists during the sanctions against Serbia and Montenegro
- Propane Bubble Chamber experiment (DUBNA)
- CERES/NA45 experiment (CERN)
- ATLAS project (CERN)
Physics Institute, University of Heidelberg
- CERES/NA45 experiment (CERN)
- NA60 experiment (CERN)
MPI Munich
- H1 experiment (DESY)
- ATLAS project (CERN)
Desy-Zeuthen Institute, Germany
- H1 experiment (DESY)
- HERA-B experiment (DESY)
Institutes from ex-Yugoslavia:
Physics Faculty, University of Belgrade (Propane Chamber, CERES, ATLAS)
Institute for Physics, Belgrade (Propane Chamber., ATLAS)
Jožef Štefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia (ARGUS)
NOTE: Physicists from Montenegro were participating to HEP collaborations
(so far) only via other Institutes (no official membership of University).

Main activities on H1 of physicists from University of Montenegro
Detector performances
Study of performances of Liquid-Argon trigger for HERA II data;
Study of the FST performances and precision for HERA II data using
γ → e+e- and K0 → π+ π - decay channels;
New hardware component - Jet Trigger - software development and implementation;
Physics Analysis
Measurement of e+p neutral current (DIS) Deep Inelastic Scattering (e + p → e + X with high momentum transfer – Q2) cross section and the structure functions (results for HERA I data obtained and published);
Measurement of e+p DIS cross section and the structure functions at low Q2 from data collected on H1 during 1999/2000 (preliminary result exists, but still work to be done; precision of measurement of F2 structure function expected to be on the level of 1%);
Study of electron-proton charged current DIS processes (e + p → ν + X) from HERA II data;

Status of University of Monetenegro in H1 collaboration
Since 2002 - active participation of Physicists from University of Montenegro in H1 experiment;
Until September 2004 - Montenegro physicists participated to H1 via German Institutes:
- Dr S. Backović and Dr N. Raičević - members of H1 via DESY-Zeuthen Institute,
- Dr A. Dubak and B. Vujičić - members of H1 via Max Plank Institute from Munich.
September 2004, 13-17th - H1 Collaboration Meeting in Budva, Montenegro;
September 16th, 2004 - Collaboration Board of H1 made the decision that Faculty of Science, University of Montenegro becomes official member of H1
Slide 15-16.
During the stay of dr N. Raičević in Hamburg in June 2004, request for financial support for stays of Montenegro physicists in Germany was sent toward the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG (3 years project)
DFG decision (still not received in written form) - about 2/3 of requested costs will be covered:
- stay in DESY-Hamburg, MPI-Munich and DESY-Zeuthen (BUT not including travel costs) for physicists from University of Montenegro;
- computing equipment on the level of about 7 kilo-euro;
STILL, there is lot of space for financing this project:
1. Travel costs for the trips to Germany;
2. Financial support for conferences or workshops which are not held in Hamburg, Berlin or Munich;
3. Financial support for detector equipment for H1 which would be running
costs contribution from the side of University of Montenegro and could
give a possibility for an additional engagement of scientists from University
of Montenegro in building or reparation of some detector component
→ possibility of including engineers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in H1 project.
NOTE: University of Montenegro is the official member of HEP Collaboration for the first time!
