30-05-2002 - On Friday, 31 May 2002, the Permanent Delegate of Afghanistan to UNESCO, Mohammad Zahir Aziz officially took possession of the new offices of the Permanent Delegation of Afghanistan. |
The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, the President of the General Conference, Ahmad Jalali, the Chairperson of the Executive Board, Aziza Bennani, the chairpersons of the various electoral and regional groups and numerous ambassadors and permanent delegates attended the inauguration ceremony during which the book Afghans, peuple déchiré 1992-2002 published by “les éditions Autrement” with UNESCO’s support was presented.
This publication, featuring photos by Stéphane Gladieu and text byGilles Dorronsoro, offers nothing less than a journey to the heart of Afghanistan. The speeches given on 1 March 2002 to the Executive Board of UNESCO by Hamid Karzaï, Chairperson of the Afghan Interim Administration, and Koïchiro Matsuura are reproduced in its opening pages.
