31-03-2006 4:15 pm The Executive Board of UNESCO, chaired by Zhang Xinsheng (China), began its 174th session at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris on 28 March and will continue through to 13 April.
UNESCO’s role in Education for All (EFA), including the presentation of the global action plan for achieving EFA by 2015, is the priority item on this session’s agenda.

The Director-General’s report on the implementation of the programme and budget and on results achieved during the previous biennium (2004-2005), as well as a report on the reform process will also be discussed.

Plenary meetings will be held from 3 to 5 April and 12 and 13 April. Various other agenda items will be examined in commission in between those dates.

The Executive Board of UNESCO, which meets twice a year, brings together 58 of UNESCO’s 191 Member States. It is responsible for the execution of the programme adopted by the General Conference of the Organization. The Secretariat, headed by the Director-General, has the task of implementing the programme.
