Providing education for all citizens by 2015 is the aim of a comprehensive strategy of Education for All, adopted by the World Education Forum held in Dakar in April 2000 and based on six overarching goals.

Each year, a global Education for All (EFA) week provides an occasion to renew the momentum generated in Dakar and to encourage public debate and action on such issues as getting all children into school, eradicating illiteracy, fostering gender equality and promoting early childhood education. During this year’s EFA week (22-26 April 2002), a wide range of activities (including round-tables, radio and television debates, drawing competitions, drama presentations) were organized by education ministries,UN agencies, NGOs, teachers unions, student associations, and the media.
