Para fomentar el debate democrático
07-12-2004 11:30 am Brought together by the same passion for style, the association La Main Fine and the Centre supérieur des techniques de l’art MODE’ESTAH will present a fashion show entitled “L’Afrique: un autre regard” (“Africa: Another Vision”) on December 13 (6.30 p.m.) at UNESCO. Organized for the benefit of women living with HIV/AIDS, and with the support of UNESCO’s Section for Women and Gender Equality, the show is one of the World AIDS Day (December 1) activities.

The show is financed by AXA Atout Coeur, an association founded by the insurance company AXA to give its employees an opportunity to become involved, outside of work hours, in volunteer activities with existing humanitarian projects.

A collection of 80 ensembles will be shown, created by the student designers of the MODE’ESTAH training centre working closely with the 12 HIV-positive women of La Main Fine. With its bright colours inspired by Africa, the collection represents a subtle blend of technology and traditional craft.

La Main Fine was founded in 2002 to help these sub-Saharan women to enter or re-enter the job market. Through its dressmaking workshop, it gives them access to their rights as workers and citizens. The women receive two years of professional training, which makes it possible for them afterwards to be hired by fashion houses in France.

The event, sponsored by Awa Maite, a painter and designer from Mali who is particularly committed to the fight against AIDS, will end with the presentation of an award for best young creator, selected by a jury of fashion professionals.

Admission is by invitation only. To receive an invitation, journalists are requested to contact the Press Relations Section: tel: +33 (0)1 45 68 17 48 -
