Hace tres años, en el Foro Mundial sobre la Educación celebrado en Dakar (Senegal), más de 160 países participantes en este evento se comprometieron a lograr para el año 2005 la paridad entre los sexos en la educación, es decir la escolarización de un número igual de niñas y niños. No obstante, según el Informe de Seguimiento de la Educación para Todos en el Mundo 2003-2004, existe el riesgo de que muchos de esos países no consigan alcanzar este objetivo. No obstante, hasta la fecha no se sabe a ciencia cierta cuál es la magnitud de esos recursos, ni tampoco si se podrán explotar comercialmente algún día.
