  • His Royal Highness Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud
    The Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, has appointed H.R.H. Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, President of the Arab Gulf Programme for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND), as UNESCO Special Envoy for Water.

    The Prince's nomination comes in recognition of his contribution to sustainable development in his native country, regionally and on the international level, in addition to tackling the issue of water scarcity through AGFUND and its affiliated institutions and organizations.

    The nomination ceremony took place at UNESCO Headquarters on December 18th, 2002, in conjuction with the award ceremony for annual AGFUND International Prize for Pioneering Development Projects. Mr Matsuura conferred the official title to H.R.H. Prince Talal in the presence of Jean Michel Jarre and Patrick Baudry, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors, in addition to the representatives from the diplomatic corps and distinguished personalities.
