11-11-2002 11:00 pm UNESCO Office in Kabul starts this week the rehabilitation of the Pedagogical Institute/Teacher Training College in Herat, Afghanistan.
The rehabilitation works, agreed with the Afghan national and provincial authorities, include a complete refurbishing of the main buildings, renovation of all carpentry, provision of water, power and sanitation facilities so that the Institute will be able to resume its training activities.
UNESCO is also building English Language Centre within the Institute’s premises. It will have computer connections, technical documentation and learner materials. The Institute was built by UNESCO some forty years ago as part of the efforts to establish Afghanistan's teachers training system
