Nurturing the democratic debate.  
Freedom of expression in the information society will be the subject of this international symposium held as part of preparations for the World Summit on the Information Society, (Geneva 2003 and Tunis 2005).
Organized by UNESCO and the French National Commission for UNESCO, the meeting will include three round tables - "New opportunities?" "Obstacles to overcome" and "Standards to be set?". It will be opened by UNESCO Deputy Director-General Marcio Barbosa and attended by French Culture and Communications Minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon and Jean Favier, President of the French National Commission for UNESCO.
