Nurturing the democratic debate.
The number of Chairs and inter-university networks has grown from 17 when the UNITWIN/UNESCO Programme was started in 1992 to more than 500 today, in more than 500 institutions in 113 pays.
They involve thousands of academics, scholars, graduate and post-graduate students, as well as key civil society and economic partners. In the last five years, these partners have given some $30 million to UNITWIN projects. The Forum will look at the progress made by UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN networks and discuss how to make them more effective. Between 500 and 700 people are expected to attend.
