ITALY AND UNESCO SIGN AGREEMENT TO IMPLEMENT BASIC EDUCATION PROJECT IN CHINAParis - A new project to provide training to teachers in the two Chinese provinces of Hainan and Jilin and to reduce disparities in the quality of education in rural and urban areas in both provinces, is to be implemented by UNESCO.
One key school in each of the two provinces is to serve as a "project base". As such, it will support the dissemination of activities to other pilot schools, thus enhancing the overall training of teachers. The project targets teachers of the first nine grades of school. It has been made possible thanks to an extrabudgetary contribution of US$1.43 million provided by Italy.
A formal ceremony to launch the project will be held on October 31 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. During the event, Italy's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Francesco Caruso, and a senior UNESCO official will sign an agreement to implement the project, "Basic Education in Hainan and Jilin Provinces". The ceremony will be held in the presence of Ambassador Zhang Xuezhong, Permanent Delegate of China to UNESCO.
The ceremony will take place at 10.30 a.m. in the offices of the Permanent Delegation of Italy to UNESCO, 1 rue Miollis, 75015 Paris
