Nurturing the democratic debate.  
This biennial competition was set up in 1995 by UNESCO and the Felissimo Group of Japan to encourage young talent around the world and promote communication and exchange between creative people from different cultures.
This fourth competition invited young designers to create a new and original vision of ways of life in the 21st century. The exhibition presents the work of 64 designers chosen from among 736 candidates in 81 countries. This year's winners are: Michael Rakowitz (United States), all-categories Grand Prize; James Dieter (United States), first prize in "House" category; Guy Parmenter (Australia), first prize in "Household Accessories"; Kai von Ahlefeld (Germany), first prize in "Fashion"; Isabelle Clark (France), first prize in "Fashion Accessories" and Rodrigo Leăo (Brazil), first prize in "Indispensable Thing".The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony on October 9 at 7 p.m. in the presence of the UNESCO Director-General and the president of the Felissimo Group.
