Main advisory body which helps identify fields and projects to which UNESCO Office in Venice may contribute.

It formulates proposals for, and gives advice on, programme activities of UNESCO Office in Venice. In the performance of its tasks, the Council is guided by the decisions adopted by the General Conference and by the Executive Board of UNESCO, as well as by the provisions of present Agreement. Its nine members, including a Chairperson, are appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO, in agreement with the Government of Italy after consultation with the Steering Committee. The Scientific Council meets at least once a year.

The Director General of UNESCO, in consultation with the Government of Italy, draws up the provisional Rules of Procedure of the Scientific Council.
