ECOHYDROLOGY
Development of ecohydrological approach as a component of sustainable water resources management

ecohydrology.jpg

DEVELOPMENT OF DEMONSTRATION SITES IN ECOHYDROLOGY IN EUROPE

Concluding Ecohydrology development during the fifth phase of IHP, a need to verify the Ecohydrological approach by providing demonstration sites, and to develop universal solutions to be applied in different regions of the world was clearly identified. Such an effort will be the core activity of the related action during 2004-2005, through which the Ecohydrological approach will be further tested, refined, and promoted among scientists, stakeholders and policy makers. Demonstrative application programmes/projects will therefore be promoted and implemented in various (complementary) land forms and/or climatic settings, possibly including BRs.

TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES IN ECOHYDROLOGY - EUROPE

During the past two years regional training seminars demonstrated to be a very efficient tool for the dissemination of the ecohydrological approach among young scientists and stakeholders. Using in priority facilities offered by demonstration sites to be implemented during 2004-2005, training workshops and seminars will be organized in order to train young scientists and managers in the application of the ecohydrological approach in a wide range of systems (floodplains, wetlands, lakes, urban environment). These activities will also be used as a basis for the elaboration and publication of training tools (manuals, CDs, distance learning) by the IHP Scientific Advisory Committee in Ecohydrology.
