Interregional Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO on the occasion of the 36th session of the General Conference

The Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova opened this one-day interregional meeting which took place on the eve of the 36th Session of the General Conference, on 24 October 2011, from 9.30 a.m to 6.00 p.m in Room XII (Fontenoy building).

Representatives of National Commissions and Permanent Delegations as well as members of the Secretariat attended the meeting.

These "informal" meetings and exchanges have proven to be very valuable, specifically in updating National Commissions on the latest developments at the Organization as well as to further associate them in its work.

The one-day event aims to replace the five half-day regional meetings held during previous sessions of the General Conference. One of the major issues discussed on this occasion was the Review of the Cooperation of UNESCO's Secretariat with National Commissions for UNESCO (Document 36 C/INF.16). UNESCO's Internal Oversight Service (IOS) presented the key findings of the review.

An english version of the full Draft Report is now available on line. National Commissions were invited to submit their comments and/or suggestions no later than 18 November 2011. They have been duly taken into consideration during the finalization stage of the report.
