Delegates from eight African National Commissions (Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sao Tome and Principe, Chad and Cameroon) and representatives of UNESCO Cluster Offices in Libreville, Cameroon and UNESCO in Bangui attended that event which took place in Yaoundé, Cameroun, from 26 to 29 May 2009.



The workshop helped the participants to enrich their knowledge of UNESCO and its working procedures as well as to discuss the roles and functions of National Commissions, especially in raising UNESCO’s visibility at the national level.

The workshop was a result of the joint collaboration of the UNESCO Secretariat, the German Commission and the National Commission of Cameroon. It was held within the framework of the project “Partnership programme with African National Commissions” which is funded by the German government.

Under this project, aimed at improving the capacities of African National Commissions, several training seminars were already held in Kigali, Rwanda (October 2008), Maseru, Lesotho (November 2008), Antananarivo, Madagascar (December 2008) and Bamako, Mali (February 2009).
