International Women's Day 2009 - Hanoi, Viet Nam
International Women's Day 2009 celebrations in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
 
HANOI, March 5 – The Resident Coordinator, Mr. John Hendra, represented the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) at a public event organized by the Viet Nam Women’s Union on “International Cooperation for Gender Equality in Viet Nam in the Context of the Global Financial Crisis”. Mr. Hendra expressed the UN's desire to work even more closely with local and international partners on this issue. Click here for the speech

HANOI, March 6 – The United Nations Gender Programme Coordination Group organized a special screening of an award-winning Vietnamese film. Produced in 2008, “The Little Heart” brought to the fore experiences of domestic, violence, human trafficking and HIV. (Please see poster below)

HANOI, March 6 – The Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator sent out a two-page e-message on “Gender and Climate Change Impacts in Viet Nam.” This research took into account the emerging climate change situation and the particular vulnerability of women to the impacts of climate change. HANOI, March 19 – A new Joint Programme on gender equality between the Government of Viet Nam and the United Nations was signed. The event was attended by Ms Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), Ms Soledad Fuentes, Ambassador of Spain, Mr John Hendra, United Nations Resident Coordinator and representatives of twelve UN agencies in Viet Nam.
