The Seeds of a Dream
Art exhibition paying homage to Dolores Cacuango; organized in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of Ecuador to UNESCO

10 – 25 March 2009, Salle des pas perdus

Dolores Cacuango© Oswaldo Guayasamín, Fundación Guayasamín .jpg Symbol of the struggle of the indigenous people of Ecuador, Dolores Cacuango (San Pablo Urco, Cayambe 1881-1971) embodies the social claims of her country. Her life was dedicated to defending the rights of the land and the language of her people. She was a central figure in the foundation of the first indigenous organization of Ecuador, and the establishment of the first bilingual (Kichwa and Spanish) school. Thanks to her deep conviction that through the single channel of education, indigenous people could hold high powered political jobs, she sowed the seeds that bore the fruit: her dream has little by little become a reality

This exhibition of photographs and objects owned by Dolores Cacuango, pays homage to this passionate woman who helped her people regain their dignity.

A collection of photos entitled “Rebuilding the stories of Ecuadorian women” provided by the National Council of Women “CONAMU”, also forms part of this art exhibition
