1000 WOMEN FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE – Art Exhibition Organized in collaboration with the organization “1000 PeaceWomen Across the Globe”
10 - 21 March 2008, Salle des Pas Perdus
Vernissage 10 March 2008
|
The exhibition portrayed the 1000 women who have collectively been nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. It provided basic information on each one of the 1000 Peace Women to demonstrate the various ways in which they contribute to building peace in the world.
The portraits, which take the form of colorful postcards, aim to give the public the feeling of meeting each of these women. The central motivation of the exhibition is to highlight, recognize and render visible their work in the pursuit of peace, in order to build a global movement of women peacemakers.
The exhibition also focused on conflicts and their direct consequences on women, and underscored the importance of women’s full and equal participation in conflict prevention, peace building processes, and the consolidation of peace. The exhibition was accompanied by a film on the topic, and a book featuring the portraits and stories of the 1000 women was available for purchase.
This event was a follow-up to the international conference Women Peacemakers organized by UNESCO on the occasion of International Women’s Day in 2007.
