The French word ‘terroir’ is difficult or even impossible to translate into other languages. The concept of ‘terroir’ however, is not exclusive to French culture and could be applied around the world as a model of site-specific sustainable development.
During this session, the association ‘Terroirs et Cultures’ and the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences of the UNESCO Natural Sciences Sector will explore and present the notion of ‘terroir’ and will present a collaborative applied research project on the development of ‘terroirs’ around the world.
